Belgacom goes green

Belgacom commits to a new five-year plan with a clear climate strategy.

Belgacom prides itself on being a "socially responsible" company. Behind this declaration of intent lies a clearly affirmed commitment and strategy. Today, Belgacom is going a step further by translating its CSR approach into an ambitious five-year plan with a clear climate strategy. Belgacom's climate strategy is straight-forward:
  • To reduce Belgacom's CO2 emissions in Belgium by 70% before 2020 by increasing its energy efficiency and promoting the use of renewable energy.
For example: all the electricity consumed by Belgacom (equivalent to the usage of 145,000 households) already comes from certified renewable sources. Belgacom produces its own solar energy on several sites, and the photovoltaic installation on the Belgacom Towers is currently the largest in Brussels.
  • To help customers reduce their own impact on the environment by offering them innovative products and services (such as an electronic bill or videoconferencing). For instance, if European companies replace only 20% of their business trips with videoconferences, we would save more than 22 million tons in CO2 emissions per year.
  • To raise awareness among employees, suppliers and the general public by supporting initiatives such as the "Climate Education Program", which aims to inform Belgian school children about climate change.
